Copper chromium zirconium rod is a high copper alloy comprising a small amount of chromium(0.1% ) and zirconium (0.1% ), which enhances its mechanical performance, and the remainder is copper. Copper itself has excellent electrical and heat transfer abilities but is flexible and ductile. Thus, the minor additions of these elements accompanied by effective heat treatment dramatically increases its strength while retaining high conductivity values. The addition of Zirconium prevents the chemical reaction of Copper at elevated temperatures. It also helps to retain the physical properties at elevated temperatures. Also, it marginally increases annealing temperature. Chromium Zirconium Coppers are used widely in areas where high electrical and thermal conductivity are required combined with good mechanical properties.
